Resident tasks wealthy Edo sons on CSR, IGR support

RESIDENTS of Eke street, in Uselu, Egor local government area of Benin City named after Atlanta-based Professor Paul Eke Street have called on wealthy Edo sons and daughters to emulate his philanthropist gestures and make life meaningful for the people.

   

    The people were reacting to the construction of the one-kilometre street with side drains and street lights which they said have also improved nightlife in the area.

   Speaking to Vanguard in the development, a resident in the area, Donald Inwalomhe who spoke for others said Eke has also contributed to the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.

  

  According to him, “This construction is part of his CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) to the community. This place is under Eguaedaiken and this will also improve the tourism potential of this community.

   He is constructing this road which is about one kilometre using the latest concrete technology. It is not just the road construction; he is equally putting solar-powered street lights and then a culvert to drain the water from the street to the main drain of Ugbowo –Benin road. The street light is bringing life back to the community which is complementing the main street light recently put on by the Governor Obaseki administration. This will also benefit S & T Barracks and the immediate community.”

   He said “I want to urge the people around here and the entire Benin City to continue to pray for this man so that he can do more for the people of Edo State. It is not just for Uselu, right there in Atlanta where he is in the US, he is equally assisting Nigerians there so he is trying to bring home what he is doing in Atlanta.

   “Other well-to-do people should emulate Professor Paul Eke on this because has been able to boost the IGR of the state government by what he is doing, from the records, the IGR he paid last year was up to N400,000. So if all the big men we have can emulate this man, it will boost the IGR of the state and local government area. With what he is doing here and with the street lights Obasei has installed on the highway, we now go to bed between 2 to 3 am, we now have a 24-hour economy.”
