The cameroon  president has freed 1,300 prisoners in its two main cities in the country.

President Paul Biya in April signed a decree to commute sentences and free some prisoners as a part of measures to combat the pandemic.

Cameroon has officially recorded 1,163 infections and 42 deaths from the covid-19 pandemic, they are the second most affected country in the sub-Sahara Africa after South Africa.

The country has a prison population of 30,000 with more that those awaiting sentencing and mostly held in over crowding facilities.

This the reason why the president decide to release most of the prisoners, 1,300 are already been freed, and still planing on releasing other prisoners across the country .
